We are going to focus more on the SanDisk memory cards and more specifically on the SanDisk Extreme and SanDisk Extreme Pro.

Before getting into the topic, let’s let the company of SanDisk claim come credits. The company per se goes way back, and memory cards aren’t their only products. This company also produces USB flash drives, solid-state drives, and digital audio players. In this article, we are going to focus mainly on memory cards or more specifically on the differences between SanDisk Extreme vs Extreme Pro.

  • Read speed – Up to 160MB/s read speed. It saves time transferring high-resolution images and videos. What’s important to know about this feature is that it requires compatible devices capable of reaching such speed.
  • Write speed – Up to 90MB/s write speeds for fast shooting.
  • App performance – this type of SanDisk is rated A2 for faster loading and in-app performance.
  • Endurance – It is built for and tested in harsh conditions, such as Temperature Proof, Water Proof, Shock Proof, and x-ray Proof.
  • File Management – It is easy to manage with. It assures easy file management and it’s also available on Google play.
  • Recognizable – You can order this SanDisk just by giving the order to Alexa. Alexa will recognize it as a product and will make the order to you.
  • Suitability – For most amateur photographers, this type of memory card will be their first choice, and the first reason is its suitability.

Will get into more details about the features mentioned above.

What’s interesting to know about SanDisk Extreme is that even if it is around 10 percent slower than the SanDisk Extreme Pro, surprisingly it is preferred more! Let’s find out why is that!

The first reason can be the price of it. SanDisk Extreme comes at a reasonable price that everyone can afford. That is why most amateur photographers prefer this type of memory card, so if it doesn’t work just like they imagined, it would be easy for them to replace it with a new one without repenting the decision of buying an expensive memory card at the first place.

As the second most important extra feature of this memory card, we can list, suitability. As mentioned above, besides the prize of this memory card is the first reason for the amateur photographer to purchase SanDisk extreme, the second reason is suitability. Now, with them being amateur photographers and just beginners at what they do, we can assume that they don’t possess the best camera, the best quality, and the best features on the market, so with that being said, we know that they will need e memory card that suits their low-quality camera. So, they will look for a slower memory card and they will find SanDisk Extreme as the most suitable memory card to purchase.

Endurance. You can literally take SanDisk to swim with you and nothing will happen to it. It will continue to function just as before, maybe even better (ok, I might have gotten over myself there, apologies). But yeah, SanDisk Extreme has been tested in every extreme condition that is believed a device would collapse and has passed all those tests successfully.

Quality. With all mentioned and explained features above, no need to say it, but however, I will: If you buy SanDisk Extreme, you are buying quality. Yes, it is an older model of a memory card, you have a point there, but you know how they say, old but gold. Buy it and it is guaranteed that you will have it for a longer period unless you manage to lose it.

The features of SanDisk Extreme Pro

Well, this type of memory card not only is extreme, but it also has a Pro in it. Does this mean that it is better than the SanDisk Extreme, or you are just being fooled by the name of it, let’s find out together?

  • Shot speed – Up to 90MB/s
  • Transfer speed – Up to 170MB/s (what’s important to know here is that it requires a compatible device capable of reaching such speeds, such as the SanDisk SD UHS I card reader).
  • Performance – May be lower depending upon the host device, interface, usage conditions, and other factors.
  • Endurance – It is built for and tested in harsh conditions, such as Temperature Proof, Water Proof, Shock Proof, and x-ray Proof.

Let’s get into more details about the features mentioned above.

The best performer ever. What’s interesting to know about SanDisk Extreme is that it never drops its performance. According to many photographers or just normal people, this memory card sticks with the same performance from the day it’s purchased and as it continues being used.

The prize of this memory card can have a little bit too much salt on it. Meaning: SanDisk Extreme Pro can be a little bit over your budget, but if you care about your photography, purchasing it cab become an excellent value for money.

Is one of the news. Just its surname “Pro” after the Extreme part, will tell us that this memory card is relatively a new thing on the market. And why I’m mentioning this? Well, at first, it might seem like a beneficial feature, but if you have an older camera this memory card might not be the best choice for you. And, I’m not saying you can’t buy SanDisk Extreme Pro for your slightly older camera, but take no consideration that it will work but at a slower speed, so in this case, it might be a better idea if you buy a SanDisk Extreme, that will be more suitable for your camera and it will fit perfectly.

This memory card is literally your rescuer. How? Well, it allows a free download of rescue software to recover deleted images – yes, you can break up with your boyfriend or your girlfriend, delete all of their photos, and then reunite again, and thanks to SanDisk Extreme Pro, you can have all of their photos back.

Can easily handle everything. Yes, you heard me, literally everything! Especially when it comes to 4K videos. So, we can say that SanDisk Extreme Pro is the best 4K Video recorder out there.

What’s The Difference?

SanDisk Extreme and SanDisk Extreme Pro differ in many ways and in many points, some of them being quite significant and some of them being quite minimalistic. One of the significant ones is the reading speed. This type of speed might not be as relevant when the photos are being taken, but when you will be transferring them onto your computer, you would definitely prefer a memory card with a higher reading speed.

When it comes to the writing speed of both of these types of memory cards, there is not a huge difference in write speed between the Extreme and Extreme Pro, but this difference will matter to you depending on what type of photographer you are. If you are a photographer that you have photography just as your hobby, then the writing speed difference between these two memory cards won’t matter to you, but if you are that type of a photographer that takes photos one after the other, or a burst of pictures then you will definitely go for the memory card with a higher write speed.

Final Words

Again, as I always say, I’m really not the right person who is supposed to be teaching you on what memory card you should purchase for your camera, device or you name it, but I can say a thing or two from my point of view, not that I’m on the end of this article. I will always go with the most bearable one and I suspect that would be SanDisk Extreme, and yes, I say that just because it’s an older version of a memory card. But, again, the decision is up to you.
